ELIZABETH BERRIDGE was born in London in 1919. After schooling there and later in Geneva, she married Reginald Moore, an editor. They had two children. Her first book was a novella, The Story of Stanley Brent, published in 1945. It was followed by eight novels, many short stories, book reviews, children’s books, and a highly respected edition of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s early diary. The family and the tensions in its relationships were her abiding fascination; she was an acknowledged master in delving its depths. She died the day before her ninetieth birthday in 2009.
